The term estate law should not become a topic for discussion only upon the death of a person. Amicus’ intention is to educate clients on their options in  Estate law and planning their Estate during their lifetime. One such option is the execution of a Last Will and Testament or Codicil. These documents will speak for you upon your death. The proper  preparation and execution is guaranteed at Amicus thereby removing  any family issues or litigation after a person’s demise. Amicus offers the necessary compassion and guidance in dealing with matters of this nature. The process at Amicus also involves the lodging of the Last Will and Testament or Codicil at the Probate Registry. 

Upon the death of a person, Amicus assists clients on the Application for Probate or Letters of Administration, GRA Estate Compliance and Vesting of properties in the names of any beneficiaries.

Our Partners believe the family unit is a core unit. Amicus practices in the Family Division of the Supreme Court of Judicature on a daily basis since the implementation of the Family Procedure Rules 2016. Amicus has caused to be filed and defended some thousands of family matters inclusive of Custody and Access to children, Applications by spouses or former spouses and Children Guardianship and Adoption. Amicus Law has assisted several male clients in applying for orders under the Statement of Children Act to insert their names onto the Certificate of Birth as father where instances of their absence prevented the presentation of the child at birth. 

Family law is an intricate concept in the law and the Courts have sought to encourage parties to have amicable discussions prior to approaching the Court where this fails the option of Mediation can be offered to parties through the Court.

 

Amicus also offers Counselling and Therapy services for all members of the family. This is encouraged so parties can find common ground in their parentage or relationship to develop healthier and stronger bonds for the best interests of all involved. 

Amicus Law Inc. assists clients in resolving matrimonial issues prior to filing where both parties are willing to reduce their agreements into writing. This option provides for parties to therefore  approach the Court to make their written agreement an Order of Court.

We assist in the filing of all applications for deceleration of title under the Title to Land (Prescription Limitation Act) and the Land Registry Act for clients who have either been in occupation and possession for more than 12 years or have bought property and made all payments and the vendor/owner’s location is unknown.

Amicus offers advice on preparing and executing plans to define the boundaries of the land occupied through the company’s relationship with reputable sworn land surveyors of both the Guyana Lands and Surveys and private offices.

In Guyana, property law is governed under several pieces of legislation inclusive of the Deeds Registry Act and the Land Registry Act. These provisions allow for the transfer, or conveyance of properties pursuant to a sale or gift or Order of Court. Amicus undertakes to assist clients in the preparation and execution of Deeds and Agreements of sale, filing of necessary documents for the transfer to the respective Registries to pass Titles, Transports or Leases.

Amicus Law Inc. offers advice on Applications for Naturalization and Citizenship for migrants who have lived here for several years, has Guyanese parentage or working permits. 

As a partner and legal adviser for the Migrant Support Group through the Roman Catholic Bishop of Guyana office, several Migrants have received assistance in legalizing their status as children born of Guyanese parentage and for their extended family, Deed Polls and Applications of Guyanese Passports and Identification cards.
